As someone who is now a senior engineer my primary gaps coming right out of the program was system design, more advanced DS/A concepts (Graph, Dynamic programming, and NP problems), and being able to pick up other languages as needed since my first job used a python and scala back end. (20 hours a week before codesmith, about 70-80 hours during and after) That was almost 3 years ago. This was basically 8 months of consistent effort I put in. even though the program was only 3 months long, I had spent 3 months prior getting ready for the program itself and also about 2 months after the program of grinding out job applications and doing take homes. The curriculum got me ready enough for a mid level role and the cost was worth it for me since I did get a 6 figure salary right out of bootcamp in HCOL city. I worked for 4 years as IT support so I had some adjacent knowledge such as yourself. I'll preface it by saying I'm only one sample size. Since you already know C++, honestly u could just tough it out and learn general JavaScript first, and then dive deeper into functional programming as a whole, then learn popular libraries in your location like React/Node. I was laid off from my job so getting a paycheck was very time sensitive so I paid for a bootcamp as it made sense for my own specific opportunity cost.Д«ut If I was living with my parents and under no pressure of financial concerns or becoming homeless, I may have went for a master's degree or just self learn for free. A better question is how much do you value your time? I went through codesmith and it expedited my pivot into the industry, but I could have also done something like Freecodecamp but it would have taken me a lot longer and I personally wouldn't have been as motivated. If you're trying to break into the industry of web development you don't need to get a master's OR go to a bootcamp if you work on a portfolio to show off. We could always do with more help and wisdom, friend! The better the FAQ, the harder we can come down on lazy posters with low-effort OPs, which means a higher quality subreddit experience for you.
